Please sign up to help set up for the Fall Festival.
Set up is Saturday, September 21 from 8am to noon. Lunch provided.
You can just show up, but indicating that you or your Scout will be there on the sign-up sheet in the Scouthouse is encouraged.

---

Upcoming Campout:
Scouthouse Fall Festival Lock-In Sept 28-29
Sign up sheet is in the Scouthouse. Scouts can bring their video games. I will have one large TV available for Scouts to hook up their gaming consoles. This is the only campout in the year were we will be indoors, have A/C & electricity, and Scouts can bring electronics. We need at least one more adult to sign-up so that there is always two-deep leadership as people come and go from their Fall Festival booth shifts (sign-ups for those shifts also in the Scouthouse)

---

Scouts between the ages of 11 and 20 are invited to apply to the Youth Advisory Panel.
https://www.scouting.org/youth-advisory-panel-application/

From the BSA website:

"We’re looking for Scouts to give their input on topics like social justice, inclusivity, social media, etc., in a pilot Youth Advisory Panel (YAP). Serving on YAP consists of participating in a series of monthly digital discussions facilitated by a BSA professional.

Live out the tenets of the Scout Law by helping the BSA serve you and other Scouts. This is your chance to guide the movement and gain resume-worthy experience!"

---

Do you receive the Bryan on Scouting newsletter? (Part of the Scouting Magazine for adults.) If not, I recommend subscribing at https://blog.scoutingmagazine.org

There was a question about how to take YPT. Go to https://my.scouting.org create an account if you don't have one, once logged in, click on the Youth Protection Icon in the right sidebar. Once you complete it, print out the certificate and bring or email it to Mr. Hart or Mr. Palmer.

Troop 152 was selected to participate in the Building Evidence in Scouting Together (BEST) study. We need at least 5 Scouts who can participate.

"The Building Evidence in Scouting Together Study is a national research study about Scouting. The goal is to understand how troop leader practices foster the development of Scouts in order to improve the Scouting program for youth and adults.

The Boy Scouts of America has partnered with researchers at Montclair State University (MSU) in New Jersey and the American Institutes for Research (AIR) to conduct this study."

I will ask parents and Scouts at the upcoming meetings if they want to participate. Details are available at:
https://www.bsabeststudy.org/
https://blog.scoutingmagazine.org/2019/02/13/bsa-best-study/

Next meeting (August 27) is Court of Honor. All parents are welcome to attend and help celebrate our Scouts' accomplishments. Please bring finger foods for a light reception afterwards.

---

Mark your calendars for Summer Camp 2020! We just received our assignment for the second week of summer camp at Camp Strake:

June 14-20, 2020

An initial payment of $30 per Scout is due by September 6, 2019. Please plan on paying half of the remaining balance of $160 by January 15, 2020, and the final payment of $160 by May 1, 2020.

Adults are $150, and that one-time payment is due by May 1, 2020.

---

Mark your calendars for Fall Festival! Each Scout is asked to sign up for 2 shifts. Older Scouts should plan on the final shifts of each day to help close down. We will be working a concession stand in the pavilion, and have an overnight lock-in (campout) in the Scouthouse.

Sign up sheets for Adults and Scouts will be available in the Scouthouse starting at the next meeting.

Saturday, September 28, 2019
3pm-5pm
5pm-7pm
7pm-9pm

Sunday, September 29, 2019
11am-1pm
1pm-3pm
3pm-5pm

It's August and summer is coming to an end! Please make sure that your Scouts have a full uniform. They will be expected to wear full Class A (including Scout pants or shorts) for the Tuesday Troop meetings.

We have some donated new & used items available in the office closet, and SHAC can provide uniforms as well if needed: https://www.shac.org/uniform-exchange

---

Next meeting, the Scouts will choose a Patrol Emblem, Patrol Name, develop a Patrol Yell, and design a Patrol Flag. Please make sure they can come to the meeting to give their input for their patrol.

---

Start thinking about Summer Camp 2020 now. Troop 152 has already paid a deposit to camp at Camp Strake next year. We will be notified of our session date next week. $30 per Scout will be due by Sept 2. Half of the final payment will be due by Jan 1,2020, and the rest of the final payment will be due by May 1, 2020.

Because Camp Strake is our Council Camp, financial aid will be available (usually up to half the cost).

---

NYLT (National Youth Leadership Training) is a great opportunity for Scouts who will be 14 or older and First Class or above when the camp starts. I highly recommend taking the winter session (Dec 26-31) as opposed to a summer session.

These sessions always fill up. I called the registrar today, and spots should be available for at least a couple of more weeks, but we can't wait too long!

Details available at https://www.samhoustonbsa.org/nylt

The Troop will pay half of any Scouting Training fees for Scouts or Adults. Financial Aid is available for the other half as well (something to think about if your Scout is also going to summer camp).

---

There should be no barriers for youth to participate in Scouting. I don't know everyone's situation, so I will always provide information on Financial Aid to everyone, if available. This is what those FOS (Friends of Scouting) fundraisers help pay for.
